A Dark Day in US History: President Trump's Confidant Calls Him A Racist, Con Man, Cheat!

The testimony today by Michael Cohen, once President Trump's closest confidant, "fixer" and personal attorney before the House Oversight Committee was among the most high-profile hearings on Capitol Hill in modern political memory and a most damning evidence ever presented against the character of a US President. At one point, Cohen explicitly called Donald Trump "A racist, a conman, a cheat!". Cohen also indicated: "The more people that follow Mr. Trump, as I did blindly, are going to suffer the same consequences that I’m suffering!"
Under attack by some pro-Trump Republican Congressmen who tried to discredit Cohen's character or question his knowledge of Trump's character, Cohen indicated he knows Trump "for over a decade," and went on during his testimony to accuse Trump of insurance and tax fraud, election poll manipulation, shady financial deals with Russians, paying hush money to prostitutes and .. The following is an excerpt of the hours-long testimony:
"I am ashamed because I know what Mr. Trump is. He is a racist. He is a conman. He is a cheat... I'm talking about a man who declares himself brilliant but directed me to threaten his high school, his colleges, and the College Board to never release his grades or SAT scores ... He speaks in a code. And I understand the code because I've been around him for a decade.. He was a presidential candidate who knew that Roger Stone was talking with Julian Assange about a WikiLeaks drop of Democratic National Committee emails... A copy of a check Mr. Trump wrote from his personal bank account -- after he became president -- to reimburse me for the hush money payments I made to cover up his affair with an adult film star and prevent damage to his campaign..."
Cohen continued: "There were at least a half-dozen times between the Iowa Caucus in January 2016 and the end of June when he would ask me 'How's it going in Russia?' -- referring to the Moscow Tower project... Trump knew of and directed the Trump Moscow negotiations throughout the campaign and lied about it. He lied about it because he never expected to win the election. He also lied about it because he stood to make hundreds of millions of dollars on the Moscow real estate project.."
Cohen also confirmed to Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez that Trump was interested in reducing his local tax bills by deflating his assets. The New York congresswoman cited a golf club near her home district as an example. "You deflate the value of the asset and then you put in a request to the tax department for a deduction," Cohen said, explaining the practice.
Representative Jackie Speier, a Democrat from California, asked Cohen how many times Trump had asked him to threaten an individual or entity on his behalf. What followed was a back and forth between the lawmaker and Cohen, where she asked a number and he replied “More,” until finally she asked, “500 times?” Cohen then replied, “Probably, over the ten years.” He then clarified, “And when you say threaten, I’m talking with litigation, or an argument … with a nasty reporter that is writing an article.” (While he was speaking, Speier also said, “Intimidation.”)
Cohen indicated he believes Trump's decisions are not in the best interest of American people. Cohen also implied Trump or his fans or agents could harm or hurt him or his family.
Cohen closes the hearing by warning: "I fear if he loses the election in 2020, there will never be a peaceful transition of power."
House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings closed Wednesday's hearing with an impassioned plea to Americans and politicians alike to become better citizens.
