Brice Becomes the First Iranian American Elected to US Congress
Politics News Blog, Kodoom.com Stephanie Bice, a Republican, is the first Iranian American elected to U.S. Congress from Oklahoma's 5th congressional district after defeating incumbent Democrat Kendra Horn in the 2020 election.
Born in Oklahoma City, Bice's father was an Iranian immigrant named Hossein Asady, also known as Joe Asady. After graduating from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in marketing and a minor in international business, Bice worked for eight years in financial oversight, business strategy and marketing for her family's technology company in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She later helped lead a boutique digital marketing agency in Oklahoma City as vice president of business development.
She has served in the Oklahoma Senate from the 22nd district since 2014. In 2016, Bice was elected by the Senate Republican Caucus to serve as Assistant Majority Floor Leader of the Senate. Bice's votes on abortion were varied, voting for 12 out of 14 pro-life bills during her legislative tenure but she declined to support the strongest anti-abortion legislation. Bice also received an A rating from the NRA. She was the Senate sponsor of House Bill 1269 that provided relief to people who were serving felony prison sentences for crimes that are now misdemeanors.
Bice graduated from Putnam City High School in Oklahoma and married Geoffrey Bice in 1996. They have two daughters.
