Former Iranian prosecutor, Saeed Mortazavi responsible for torture and death inside prisons
Saeed Mortazavi
Saeed Mortazavi, former prosecutor and powerful hardliner who ordered closure of numerous reformist newspapers and publications in Iran, was named today by Iran's Attorney General, Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi, as one of those indicted for last year's torture and death of reformists inside Kahrizak prison (dungeon).
Mortazavi is believed to be well connected to Iranian leadership and is now appointed by Ahmadinejad to lead the Office fighting smuggling of Currency and Merchandise. Observers believe Mortazavi is unlikely to be prosecuted or penalized due to the internal power struggle in Iran among hardliner factions close to the Judiciary, Ahmadinejad, Congress, Military, and the Leader (Khamenei).
