Iranian Hardliners warn Rohani: Goodman's visit to Tehran was staged by CIA
Independent Persian News Search Engine, Kodoom.com: Conservative media sources in Iran such as Mashregh claim CIA staged a 2015 visit to Iranian universities by US delegation headed by Allan Goodman, president of the the New York-based Institute of International Education. Hardliners continue to warn President Rohani not to cozy up to the US after this week's victory of pro-Rohani reformists in Iran's elections.
Speaking on his return from Iran, Prof. Goodman, had said that the US delegation had come away with a strong sense of the Iranians wanting more engagement with the West. And he said this had been helped by a legacy of links in previous generations between Iranian students and the US.
Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif is US educated. The decision for the US representatives to travel to Iran reflected the more outward-looking stance being taken President Hassan Rouhani, said Prof Goodman. The Iranian president has a PhD from Glasgow Caledonian University in the UK.
