- Iran's National Security Chief and Adviser to Supreme Leader, Ali Shamkhani, has paid official visits to the families of some of those killed during November protest riots, according to Iranian news agencies. The official number of people killed during the riots, by some accounts exceeding 1000, is still not released but it is confirmed that among the casualties are teenagers, students, laborers, war veterans and military officers from poor neighborhoods. Shamkhani, however, blamed 85% of casualties in the city of Shahriar on foreign forces.
- Separately, Parvaneh Salahshoori, an outspoken female MP who has decided not to run again in the upcoming elections, condemned "the out of control tyranny of a minority" in a fiery statement heckled by pro-Leader conservative male MPs. Salahshoori stated: "When we have had several popular movements, all suppressed, and when we impose on our youth a lifestyle they did not choose, and when an out-of-control tyrannical minority is running our corrupted financial and political system with impunity, and when we have numerous power circles paralyzing our parliament, democracy is meaningless.. The late founder of revolution Ayatollah Khomeini had warned the previous regime of not imposing their will on a new generation but we are just doing the same now.. We are accountable for the blood of protesters... I cannot run again in good conscience ..."
- An Iranian Islamic Judiciary official today, in response to university students wondering about civil and protest rights, suggested they "write letters" to protest instead of demonstrating or rioting.
- Head of Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Gholamhossein Shafei, has warned that systemic corruption has impacted up to 8% of Iranian economy as well as "society's moral fabric."
- Vice President Jahangiri, in reaction to the Judiciary's anti corruption campaign against government officials, including President Rouhani's own brother, has lashed out at deep-state organizations running parallel to the government: "Zanjani (the jailed kingpin of Iran's underground economy) was supported by people not accountable to anyone. We need full transparency on his case!"
