Wary of espionage, Norway may limit stuent visas to Iranians
According to Norwegian publication Dagbladet, A security panel of Norwegian government met on Monday to discuss a report assessing security threats by an increasing number of Iranian university students in Norway. The Police Security Service (PST) has evidence that some Iranian students come to Norway to obtain information related to weapons of mass destruction.
The report (see video below) indicates that most attempts to obtain weapons-related technology from Norwegian companies can be linked to agents of Iran. In 2012 PST also observed a sharp increase in visa applications from Iranians to Norway for work, research and study in the so-called "multi-value" areas that may have military applications.
According to PST, Norway is an attractive country for Iranians, partly because several other European countries have made restrictions for Iranian applicants for research and study. Now some panel members favor visa restrictions in Norway as well.
It should be noted that while Norwegians are concerned about espionage by some Iranians, one of the most popular entertainers in Norway is an Iranian immigrant, Touraj "Tooji" Keshtkar (see link here: " Tooji Keshtkar: The hard road from Shiraz to music stardom in Norway").
