Iranian Actresses and Journalists Punished for Defying Mandatory Head Scarf
Despite the threat of war with Israel and their need for domestic public support, Iranian government continues to alienate reformist women by punishing female journalists and actresses who joined the Mahsa Amini (Women, Life, Freedom) movement and protested mandatory head scarf (Hijab) rules. Iran's Cinema Supervision Office has officially blacklisted 20 actresses who defied mandatory Hijab (head scarf) and banned them from acting:
The Revolutionary Court has also issued prison sentences for Elaheh Mohammadi and Niloufar Hamedi, two female journalists who covered news of the Mahsa movement for the Harassment Watch Group.
In recent weeks, shops, shopping malls and even doctors' offices that allowed women without the head scarf have been shut down. Even female physicians who remove their scarf inside their private practice can lose their license and business permit!
