Videos: The Rich Kids of Tehran
Some 45 years after the Islamic revolution that promised empowerment of the "oppressed" and promotion of modest lifestyles, there is now more income disparity and immodest lifestyles than any other time in Iran's history. These videos are from the plush northern suburbs of Tehran hosting well-connected billionaires and their children spending hundreds of dollars on food and luxury items (an average Iranian teacher makes less than $300 a month!) and thousands of dollars on cars, fitness clubs, and other hobbies:
Although radical Islamists inside Iran define "modesty" as a woman's proper hair covering (scarf), immodest lifestyles and astronomical incomes of the elite class have become normal in Iran. Many of the boys and girls that spend their time and money in the Northern suburbs are children of billionaire officials or tradesmen who have special immunity from financial prosecution because of their connections to central authorities.
