Parsineh quoting Mehr: Ismail Danesh pajooh Director of Public Relations for Tehran's mega-cemetery, Behesht Zahra (Garden of Zahra) has reported that 3-story graves with titles are now available to pre-purchase. For anyone pre-purchasing the upper 2 stories for $3000, the first level is free. Also, all 30-year old graves will be converted to 3 stories by adding 2 upper burials. These older graves are sold for $4500.
Tehran's Behesht Zahra cemetery, nearly 600 hectares in size, and one of the largest in the world, was established in 1970. It is the burial place of nearly 1.5 million people, including thousands who died during the 1979 Islamic Revolution, tens of thousands who were killed in the Iran-Iraq war, and hundreds of political prisoners killed after the Islamic revolution (who are often buried in remote, unmarked dusty blocks without any vegetation). In recent years, the cemetery has faced a major shortage of graves due to sharp increases in Tehran's population and death rates.
