Emergency landing of 2 Iranian passenger airlines in Turkey
Mahmood Heydari, Iranian Consul in Turkey reported on Thursday that 2 Iranian passenger jets were forced into landing in Istanbul's Ataturk Airport. Iran's Central News Unit reported that one of the aircraft, an Airbus A-300 carrying 209 passengers, requested emergency landing in Istanbul at 10 AM local time, after fire and smoke were seen emitted from aircraft's left engine.
In recent years, Iran has had a high rate of air traffic accidents, crashes and casualties due to the country's aging fleet and poor maintenance of aircraft.
