How to Send Relief for Iran Flood Victims: Charities with OFAC license
Society Blog, Kodoom.com Editorial:
A terrible series of unprecedented flash floods have hit 25 of Iran's 31 provinces, causing widespread devastation and destruction. The death toll has surpassed 70 with the potential of more loss of life. Dams in some areas are about to break and thousands have been displaced seeking shelter in safer areas. Urgent supplies of fresh water, food, and shelter are desperately needed.
Although rescue efforts are underway, relief coming from the United States has been stymied due to U.S. imposed sanctions against Iran. However, a number of organizations have had an OFAC license to send donations and are working diligently to assist people most affected. They include the Child Foundation, Children of Persia and Moms Against Poverty (MAP):
Child Foundation has created a special account to help those affected by the flash floods immediately following the news reports. You can click here to donate. Child Foundation is one of the few organizations that is legally allowed to send humanitarian aid to Iran. Their staff on the ground is assessing how best to provide aid, including in the long-term. There are many reports of destroyed roadways, schools, and homes, and Child Foundation seeks to provide relief in the most effective way possible.
While flooding continues, the aftermath of flooding and the impact on survivors can be even more deadly with outbreaks of cholera and other water-borne illnesses due to contaminated water. This is one reason why the Children of Persia charity (established in 1999) is holding their annual Gala on May 4 in Washington, D.C. with donations specifically targeted to provide assistance for flood victims. Click HERE for more information and tickets to attend the event to support humanitarian assistance during this crisis. You can also visit their online fundraising campaign page HERE.
Their website lists Children of Persia as a registered charitable organization governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors and Officers with an IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in US and OFAC Licenses for its Iran projects.
Moms Against Poverty (MAP) is a 501c3 tax exempt charity organization and has been operating in Iran with a valid OFAC permit since 2010. Their team in Iran has been diligently working since the floods began to provide first level flood relief to the areas with greatest need and to the individuals that are most vulnerable, in the provinces of Golestan, Fars (Shiraz), Lorestan and Khuzestan. You can Donate via this link.
MAP was launched in 2008 by a group of individuals, who believe that, every child deserves a chance to thrive in this world regardless of where they are born.
Help is on the way, yet much more is needed. You can get daily andhourly updates about the flood news on Kodoom.com news aggregator robot by searching keyword "Flood" in Persian "سیل" via this link.
