In Pictures: Polish Refugees in Iran in World War II
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Following the temporary invasion of Iran in 1941 by British and Russian troops, some 116,000 refugees who were taken away by Stalin's order from Poland, were temporarily transported to Bandar Pahlavi (Anzali) in Iran. Many orphan children were later transferred to Isfahan.
Pictures show some of these refugees in Iranian camps.
By 1944, most of these refugees were transported out of Iran to England, India, Mexico, and New Zealand, or back to Poland.
