Iran's chronic problems: High pollution and accident fatalities
Iranian news sources confirmed today that schools and government offices will be closed on Tuesday in the City of Isfahan due to excessive air pollution. Earlier last week, Tehran's offices and schools were closed due to hazardous air pollution, and they will be closed again this week on Wednesday and Thursday for the same reason.
In addition to excessive air pollution, Iran also suffers from the highest fatality rate in the world due to traffic accidents. Today Eskandar Momeni, The Chief of Iran's Traffic Police confirmed that more than 23000 people die in Iran every year due to traffic accidents. This is twice the world's per-capita averages and nearly 4 times the per-vehicle averages in industrialized nations.
