Iran's matchmaking website for singles but only by their elders
Persian news search engine, Kodoom.com: In five days, Iran's first official - Kosher, Halal- matchmaking website will be launched as an expensive elaborate project to counter the problem of celibacy in Iran that has led to low marriage and birth rates. Currently 11 million Iranians are single and show no desire to marry. Some use matchmaking websites for casual dating and fun, which is frowned upon by theocratic conservatives who have masterminded the new website that allows matchmaking recommendations for singles only by their elders, the same way old arranged matchmaking and marriages worked.
Moderate Iranian publications like Tabnak criticize such websites for being old fashioned and also not focusing country's resources on the real problems facing Iranian singles, such as high unemployment, poor economy, and lack of healthy venues and events in which young single people can meet and interact.
