Iranian government bans ads for pets and pet supplies

Alireza Karimi the Information Officer at the Iranian Ministry of Islamic Guidance has quoted a religious decree by Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirzai as the reason for banning any print ads (papers and advertising pamphlets) for pets, pet stores and pet supplies.

Islamic fundamentalists consider dogs as "unclean" for inside a residence, and have publicly voiced disappointment in the increasing trend of pet ownership among wealthy Iranian households.
