Young successful Iranian American stabbed to death by white supremacist
OC Register: Shayan Mazroei, a successful 22-year-old Iranian American entrepreneur was stabbed to death last Sunday night in Patsy’s Irish Pub in Laguna Niguel, California. Mazroei moved from Oklahoma to Laguna Niguel in 2013, and not long after, he developed a passion for playing pool at Patsy’s with a diverse group of people he befriended due to his cordial and warm personality.
Mazroei’s choice in friends came as no surprise to his girlfriend, Mandilyn Legaard. "The thing I love most about him is he was such an old soul," Legaard said. "He was so wise, and I feel like I’ve learned so much from him even though he’s two years younger than me." Mazroei’s maturity also made him a good businessman, Legaard said. He opened Auto Gallery LLC, a car dealership in Santa Ana, five months ago, and the business was just starting to take off.
Orange County Sheriff’s deputies say Craig Tanber, a 37-year-old Dana Point man, an admitted white supremacist who previously served time for voluntary manslaughter, killed Mazroei. After being at large for several days, Tanber was arrested on suspicion of murder Friday at a Westminster hotel and booked into Orange County jail. It is unclear whether Mazroei or Tanber were drunk or fought before the stabbing.
Two years ago, two other Iranian Americans, Elvis Kechechian, Santa Margarita Catholic High School hockey coach, and his friend Bahador Hossain Saidian, were stabbed to death in Orange County, California in a Mexican restaurant after a night of drinking and during a brawl. The perpetrator was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
