Historic defeat of Russia's top Grandmaster by Iranian chess player
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Registered as an impressive historic victory for Iran's chess, Iranian chess player Mohammad Amin Tabatabaei (ELO score of 2577) overpowered Russia's Grandmaster Vladimir Fedoseev with an ELO score of 2724, one of the world's highest, during the 6th round of Moscow Aeroflot Open.
Tabatabaie has also defeated Indian and Armenian grandmasters, and after seven rounds with 5.5 points, currently shares the top spot with Kovalev Vladislav of Bulgaria.
The Aeroflot Open 2018 is held in Moscow's Cosmos Hotel from February 20th to 28th. In the A-Open, 60 grandmasters are among the 92-player field, lead by last year's winner Vladimir Fedoseev.
Iranian squad consisted of four young chess players: Alireza Firouzjah, Parham Maghsudlou, Mohammad Amin Tabatabaei and Aryan Gholami.
There will be three separate nine-round Swiss tournaments, and the top A Open is one of the strongest open tournaments ever — for a place on the starting list a player must have an Elo rating of at least 2550. The top seed is last year's winner Vladimir Fedoseev (Russia, Elo 2724), followed by Indian phenom Vidit Gujrathi, just one Elo point behind.
