Iran now a powerhouse in Volleyball, Futsal and Beach Sports
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/events, Kodoom.com: Iran is known as a competitive nation. In sports, Iranians have historically excelled in power sports such as wrestling and weightlifting, and recently in martial arts such as Taekwondo and Karate. Iranian athletes, however, are now winning a record number of top rankings and medals in other world sports such as volleyball, basketball, indoor soccer (Futsal), beach soccer, fencing, track and field, and table tennis.
In beach football (soccer), in the latest overall world rankings, Iran ranks third, ahead of powerhouses such as Russia, Germany, Italy, Argentina and Spain. In May, Iran defeated Italy in Semi-Finals of the World Cup of beach soccer to win the third spot. A goal scored by Iran's goal keeper Peyman Hosseini was rated by FIFA as the tournament's most amazing goal (see video).
