Iranian Defeats Welsh Cuiest to Win Billiard's World Amateur Snooker Championship
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Iranian cueist Soheil Vahedi Wins the 42nd edition of the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Amateur Snooker Championship title in Qatar after defeating Welsh professional snooker player Andrew Pagett 8-1 in the finals. Vahedi gained the admiration of the spectators at the al-Sadd Club Stadium in the Qatari capital city of Doha. Earlier, Vahedi prevailed over Declan Brennan of Northern Ireland 7-6 in a closely fought semi-final match.
Vahedi also defeated contestants from Iceland, Japan, Albania, Pakistan, Poland, Scotland and Germany in the early rounds. With his new championship title, Vahedi will be the second Iranian after Hossein Vafaei to be move up his rank to a Professional Cuiest.
The 42nd edition of IBSF World Amateur Snooker Championships in Doha, Qatar attracted more than 250 snooker players from 55 countries, including Albania, Germany, Iceland, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Northern Ireland, Pakistan, Poland and Scotland.
Earlier this year, Iran also won its first ever women's snooker medal in Asian Billiards. At the first edition of Asian Billiard Sports Championship in the United Arab Emirates, Iran's female cueist Akram Mohammadi Amini won a historic bronze medal in the Single Women 9-Ball Pool Games of the continental sporting event in Fujairah. Mohammadi brought an end to Iran's long wait to clinch a medal in the women’s division of Asian championships.
