Iranian Girl Finishes Second in World Junior Chess Championships
Sports Blog, Kodoom.com Editorial:
Chess players from Iran continue to stun the world. The most recent proud moment for Iranians was achieved by Mobina Alinasab who moved ahead of world Grandmasters from India, China and Russia to finish as a runner up in FIDE World Junior (Under 20) Girls Chess Championships in Delhi, India.
In September, Aryan Gholami from Iran won the Championship title in 2019 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Chess International Open ahead of Grandmasters from Russia, China and India, not an easy feat! Earlier in the year, however, Gholami forfeited his chance at winning a $10,000 prize when he ruled out, to comply with Iranian government mandates, playing against Israeli Ariel Erenberg at the Rilton Cup in Sweden. As a result, Commander Soleymani and Iranian Leader Ayatollah Khamenei personally thanked him for his courage in standing with the oppressed (Palestinians).
In 2018, Parham Maghsoodloo, a young Iranian from the Province of Golestan, claimed an early and easy victory over powerful Grandmasters from India, Russia, China, Norway, Armenia and Germany, in World Junior and Girls U20 Championship in Turkey. Some commentators call Parham the "Magician from Persia" and a serious rival to current world chess champion Sven Magnus Carlsen from Norway.
