Iranian wrestlers in Los Angeles to defend world Championship title
Call it wrestling diplomacy, rivalry, or friendship, but an all powerful Iranian team will be in Los Angeles soon (Event Page) to defend their world freestyle championship - a title earned last year in the same city after defeating both the United States and Russia (seen in picture below). USA Wrestling will host the 2015 Senior Men's Freestyle World Cup on April 11-12 at the newly renovated FORUM in Inglewood, CA. The World Cup will offer wrestling fans a chance to enjoy two action packed days of dual competition among world's best wrestlers. The top eight teams from the 2014 Senior World Championships earned the right to compete. Iran is in Group B with regional powerhouses Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Turkey. Group A consists of Russia, Cuba, USA and Mongolia. Wrestling analysts are predicating an Iran vs. USA final which, which will certainly make this event even more exciting.
Each team will compete three times in a dual format, wrestling every country in the pool that they are drawn into. At the completion of pool competition each team will then wrestle their equal placer from the other pool to determine final placing.
Notably, with an estimated one million Iranian Americans, California is now home to the largest population of Iranians in diaspora, who have, regardless of their political backgrounds, historically supported Iranian teams visiting the United States. So expect loud and cheerful crowds again in the FORUM this year rooting for the Iranian team and making them feel right at home.
This year, Pangea Sports Management (PSM), an LA based professional sporting events and talent management firm is working with USA Wrestling to promote and market this event. The Managing Director of PSM, Mr. Hashemi has informed Kodoom that they have secured a premium "Iranian Fan Zone" area at the FORUM with tickets available in select Persian stores and online on this site (Link to Exclusive Discounted 2-day Online Tickets). These seats are among the best in the FORUM and making them available to Iranian/Persian fans will leverage the energetic atmosphere these fans are known for.
PSM also has a limited number of commercial sponsorships opportunities for Iranian or Non-Iranian businesses seeking to advertise at this event. These games will be televised on NBC and NBC Universal.
