Jahanbakhsh from Iran wins Highest Professional Football Awards in the Netherlands
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Iranian football (soccer) star Alireza Jahanbakhsh has received the 2018 top scorer and second best player silver shoe awards at Eredivisie, the top professional football league in the Netherlands. Jahanbakhsh was accompanied by his parents and friend legendary Iranian football star Mehdi Mahdavi Kia. Ajax’s midfielder Hakim Ziyech from Morocco won the gold shoe award.
Jahanbakhsh, originally from the province of Gilan in Iran, scored 21 goals in the Dutch league with AZ Alkmaar last season and became the first Asian player to become top scorer in a major European league.
He represented Iran at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, 2015 AFC Asian Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. It was announced in July that UK Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Jahanbakhsh for a club-record £17 million from AZ Alkmaar.
