Last place finish STILL leaves Afghani sprinter ahead of her time!
The lone female from Afghanistan has a plan to make a difference when she returns home in Kabul, and despite Tahmina Kohistani’s chance of winning a gold gone, her true dream lives on. Tahmina has been working up a plan and nurturing her spirit to return home to a war-torn country and lead a program: “Women in Sports.”
When asked if this plan will work… because it didn’t happen after another inspirational Afghani female runner, Robina Muqimyar, returned home in 2004, she states, "Because the reason is that I have, she doesn't have," Tahmina Kohistani says. "I'm going to do something to change my society but she does not have this idea. She just want to be famous girl. I can say a lot of things about her character, but I know that our feeling is different. My feeling is different because I'm going to do something for my country. I like to change the society, to change the mind of people about [women] and they should accept this. We are not wrong. We are right."
How many of us have this idea in our mind? Are we doing something each day to add value and worth to our own circle or can we take a cue from Tahmina and make strides in the lives of others? If we aren’t sure what to do, please share this with your friends and family and lend some moral support to Tahmina – and let the Olympic circle widen, because once the show is over in London, the real work begins anew.
