New World Rankings for Iranian Athletes
Independent Aggeregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Iran is known as a competitive nation. In sports, Iranians have historically excelled in power sports such as wrestling and weightlifting, and recently in martial arts such as Taekwondo and Karate. Iranian athletes, however, are now winning a record number of top rankings and medals in other world sports such as fencing, beach soccer, football and even in darts!
Earlier this month, Iranian Sabre fencers defeated Russia and Canada to land the 4th spot in The Algiers Men’s Senior Sabre World Cup.
This month, Saman Ghoddus, Iranian Swedish footballer, was named as the best player in Swedish pro league (news link).
Iran's Peyman Hosseini was named earlier this month as the world's best 2017 goal keeper in Beach Soccer.
In Karate, World Karate Federation ranked Iran as second overall team in the world only after Japan (News link).
In October, Iranian female wushu fighters collected 11 medals to land second overall at the 14th World Wushu Championships in Kazan, Russia. Iran also unseated China in Sanda and won the first ever World Championship in Wushu martial arts.
In FIFA's U-17 World Cup, Iran's youth national team crushed Germany's national team 4-0 to become the only Asian team to advance to the Quarter finals before being stopped in a 3-1 loss to Spain. In earlier rounds, Iran also defeated Guinea, Mexico and Costa Rica.
In October, for the first time ever, Iranian girls win gold medals in both singles and pairs in Word Darts Federation (WDF) World Cup 2017 in Kobe, Japan. In Youth Girls Pairs finals, the Hashtbaran, Avazzadeh team from Iran defeated the team from the Netherlands to win gold, and in Youth Girls Singles, Deniz Hashtbaran of Iran defeated Katie Sheldon of Ireland in the finals to win the world Youth Championship.
