Ten Iranians and Two Robots Among 7500 Torchbearers of Winter Olympics
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Ten Iranians were selected by Samsung Mobile, as the only official sponsor of PyeongChang Winter Olympic, among the 7500 torchbearers of 2018 Winter Olympics to be held February 9-25, 2018.
Iranian movie star, Bahram Radan was was chosen by United Nations as the first Iranian UN Ambassador against hunger is the most famous name on the list of torchbearers. The list also includes Azim Gheychisaz, a seasoned mountain climber, Forough Abbasi, Iran’s female skier who competed in the Sochi 2014 winter Olympics, Helia Baghbani, Iran's youngest female pilot, and six other distinguished athletes and social activists.
Olympic Torch Relay is to begin on October 26 at a ceremony in ancient Olympia, Greece and set to burn for 101 days and pass through 88 Korean cities.
Pointing to the eccentric events of the relay, two robots joined the torchbearers. The DRC-HUBO, a humanoid robot, created by the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, carried the torch while controlled by Dennis Hong, engineering professor in UCLA. Hong handed the torch to HUBO, which ran for 160 kilometers.
Also FX-2 robot, a next generation riding robot, carried the torch with a young aspiring scientist Lee Jeong-jae, 14, in the pilot seat.
