US Wrestling team cheered by Iranian fans in Tehran
Persian News Engine, Kodoom.com, from Entekhab: The U.S. wrestling team was caught by a pleasant surprise today when cheered by Iranian fans in Tehran during the World Cup of Greco Roman Wrestling. The US team defeated Armenia to clinch the 9th spot in the competitive games. When American wrestler Robert Smith (competing in 130-KG) received a standing ovation, he was particularly thankful and came back to the arena, along with his team mates to bow and express gratitude for the support by Iranian fans. Iran is to face Russia in the finals for Championship.
In March, during what political observers call the US-Iran wrestling diplomacy, Iran's freestyle wrestling team visited Los Angeles amidst a jovial atmosphere both on stage - seen as sportsmanship and camaraderie between wrestlers - and among spectators who watched Iran wins the 2014 World Cup of freestyle wrestling in Los Angeles.
