Video: Iranian Gymnasts Win Historic Medals in World Cup of Gymnastics
Sports News Blog, Kodoom.com Despite crippling sanctions imposed by Donald Trump, Iranian athletes who are still able to secure visas and financial support to travel abroad create proud moments for their fellow countrymen. In February, two young Iranian gymnasts, initially refused a visa to enter Australia, won silver medals during the World Cup of Gymnastics held in Melbourne, Australia. This is a historically unprecedented accomplishment for Iranian gymnasts.
Saeedreza Keikha won the silver in men’s pommel horse with a score of 15.033. Stephen Nedoroscik of the USA gained the gold with 15.400 while Kohei Kameyama of Japan finished third. In 2018, Keikha, who had two elements named after him, added two new elements to the Men’s Code Point of the sport in pommel horse division at the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique World Cup 2018 in Baku, Azerbaijan. It was for the first time in the history of the sport that an individual introduces four new moves that are named after him in Men’s Code of Points book; the Iranian prodigy now has got a name in it.
The other silver in Melbourne was won by Mahdi Ahmad Kohani in rings. 2016 Olympics champion Eleftherios Petrounias of Greece won the gold while the bronze went to Ali Zahran of Egypt.
No Iranian women participated in the 2020 World Cup in Melbourne.
