Daughter of senior Iranian diplomat in U.S. dispels Hijab, causes controversy
A PBS documentary about Hijab (Islamic cover) among Muslim women in America has caused outrage among conservative Iranian media because in the video (0:20 in the video trailer below) Sabereh Jaffarzadeh, daughter of a senior diplomat in Iran's Diplomatic Mission in Washington DC, dispels Hijab by removing her headscarf. The conservative Iranian media claim Sabereh Jaffarzadeh is also an avid supporter of Iran's "Green" reform movement led by Mousavi and Karrubi (both under house arrest), and works for Department of Homeland Security.
According to the Pew Research Center, 43 percent of women identifying themselves as American muslims wear headscarves all the time, and 48 percent don't use hijab or cover their hair at all. Although the scarf is a public, sometimes even political symbol, women say the choice to unveil is highly private, emotional and religious.
