From Persia to Pennsylvania, Iranian American CEO Among Most Innovative Business Leaders

An Iranian American is in the company of Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk on the Forbes magazine’s 2019 list of 100 most innovative business leaders in America. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk were tied for first place, with Mark Zuckerberg, Mark Benioff, and Reed Hastings rounding out the top five. Seifollah “Seifi” Ghasemi, the Iranian American CEO of Air Products is number 81 on the list.
Mr. Ghasemi who is originally from Mashhad, earned his undergraduate degree from Abadan Institute of Technology with a scholarship from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania. He also holds an M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University.
Mr. Ghasemi is a member of The Business Council, an association of the chief executive officers of the world’s most important business enterprises. In 2019 he was elected to the Board of Directors of the US-China Business Council.
Prior to joining Air Products, from 2001-2014, Mr. Ghasemi served as chairman and chief executive officer of Rockwood Holdings, a global leader in inorganic specialty chemicals and advanced materials that was acquired by Albemarle Corporation in January 2015. Earlier in his career, Mr. Ghasemi spent nearly 20 years with The BOC Group (the industrial gas company which is now part of Linde AG).
Ghasemi met his wife of 48 years, Ellen, while in Palo Alto at Stanford University. They live in New Jersey and have a son, Robert Gregory (Bob), who graduated with a B.A. from Allegheny College and an MBA from Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.
