Iranian Moradi Abadi beats American Chess Grandmaster in Saint Louis
Earlier in April, Iranian Grandmaster Elshan Moradi Abadi defeated American chess GM (Grandmaster) Ben Finegold in the first round of 2012 Saint Louis Invitational, and went on to be the tournament's champion with only one loss (in 9 games) and 6 total points.
Elshan Moradi Abadi, born 22 May 1985, is a chess grandmaster from Iran. When he was 16 he won the 2001 Iranian Chess Championship with a score of 10/11, ahead of Ehsan Ghaem Maghami. He was one of the members of Iran national team in the first World Mind Sports Games held in Beijing (2008), in which the Iranian team surprisingly clinched the third place ahead of Hungary, USA and India. Elshan recently graduated from Sharif University of Technology with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
