TDue to the ban imposed by Iranian government on advertising for pets and pet supplies, the video shown on Iran's Channel 2 shows black markets on streets of Tehran for all kinds of pets, from cats and dogs to lizards, snakes, and even lions! One woman says she loves her dog more than her own child:

The widespread appeal of pets could perhaps be one of the most telling cultural signs that Iran's urban population is more westernized than any other Islamic and middle eastern country.
