In Pictures: Anniversary of Khoramshahr liberation from Iraqi forces (Videos)
Independent Source of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: On May 24, 1982 some 70,000 Iranian army troops and Revolutionary Guards, during Operation Beit ol-Moqaddas (Jerusalem) freed the port city of Khorramshahr from the occupying Iraqi Army under Saddam Hussein.
Iraqis had captured the city early during invasion of Iran in October 1980.
During the operations, Iranians captured some 19,000 Iraqi soldiers as prisoners of war, and killed or injured an estimated 16,000. Several thousand Iranians also died in this battle.
