Hot news and gossip about Persian Satellite TVs and websites in U.S.
Left to right: Amirghasemi, Solati's wife and Solati
There are no authoritative source of news on Iranian media outside Iran, but the following news and gossip are received from different sources which we consider reliable:
- We recently reported that Alireza Amirghassemi, a well known Los Angeles based Persian music producer and promoter, was forced, by massive debt and legal disputes, to sell his once successful Tapesh TV, a Persian entertainment TV. The channel is now operating on a smaller scale, under a new ownership and name (Ti), and led by Mr Koroosh Bibian, the Jewish Iranian founder of the now-defunct Los Angeles based Jam-e Jam TV. Now it appears that Amirghassemi is headed to Malaysia to start a new entertainment TV there. It is not clear whether the new station will compete or cooperate with Amirghassemi's old Los Angeles based station (Ti). It is also not clear on why Amirghassemi, after so many years of living in Los Angeles, is exploring Malaysia as home for the new expansion. Some media observers believe after the economic slow down in Dubai and its strained relations with Iran, Malaysia will offer new business investment opportunities for Iranian investors and government, and Mr. Amirghassemi is poised to take advantage of this new Iranian "gold rush" in Malaysia, although this could also end up in a bust like its Dubai counterpart. Some critics also accuse Mr. Amirghassemi of cooperating with Iranian government to help them establish a business and media base in Malaysia.
- In addition to Tapesh and Jame Jam (two of the oldest Los Angeles based Persian satellite TV stations) other Los Angeles based Iranian media are also struggling financially. Many are forced to reduce original programming content and increase commercial activities. For example, Channel One, a political opposition to the Iranian government, and a loyalist to the former Iranian kingdom, is now offering a home shopping channel and promoting Las Vegas concerts and travel packages. In previous years, the founder of this Channel (Mr. Shahram Homayoun, in picture below) had rebuked concert promoters because they created a diversion from Iranian people's fight for freedom.

- The IRAN TV group of Los Angeles based TV stations (PEN, ITN, Live), directed by Mr. Hamid Shabkhiz, have become increasingly sales-oriented and devoid of programming content, and now sell a variety of questionable products such as dietary supplements, "tools" for male organ enhancements, and investment opportunities with 50% rates of return in 6 months!
- TV stations like IranZamin TV are now exposing fraud and discrepancy among other Los Angeles based TV stations. This year, IranZamin TV is also organizing one of this year's largest Christmas Persian pop music festivals in Las Vegas (tickets of which are sold online at Kodoom.com).
- It is heard that a U.S.-based website providing an online music radio for the young Iranian expatriates, uses hyper-inflated and inaccurate "view counters" on their videos. For example, sponsored videos posted by some unknown musicians, receive some 300,000 hits in a matter of 2-3 weeks, which is much more than the YouTube view count on a similar video, and also much more than the website's total traffic! If true, the fraudulent use of video view counters would disgrace the website and disappoint their fans.
- NABZ.com, a new Persian music and entertainment oriented internet-based online Radio and media outlet (logo above), is poised to launch on November 28th. The website is to offer a strong collection of high definition music videos. They are also partnering with IranZamin TV to promote one of this year's largest Las Vegas Christmas concerts (tickets of which are sold online at Kodoom.com).
