Salmonella Infection Outbreak Linked to Moby Dick House of Kabob

According to a recent report by Bethesda Magazine, 27 cases of salmonella outbreak in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C have been connected to Moby Dick (Persian) House of Kabob.
Health officials have said that many of the diners ate hummus as part of their meals at the chain restaurant and the menu item continues to be investigated as a possible cause. Alison Reeves, a spokeswoman with the D.C. Department of Health, wrote in an email Tuesday that her agency is investigating one confirmed Moby Dick case there. She wrote that it was not clear whether it was related to the hummus.
Last May, Mike (Nezameddin) Daryoush, the Iranian American founder of Moby Dick House of Kabob fast service chain restaurant, died at 66 of heart attack in Washington, DC. It is not known if the heart condition was caused by a meat-based diet, genetic or other lifestyle factors. Named after Herman Melville's masterpiece, also Tehran's famous restaurant in the 70's serving the US Embassy, Moby Dick House of Kabob was the first major restaurant chain in the US that served Iranian style Kabobs with reasonable quality and prices.
Although the Maryland Department of Health has cleared Moby Dick House of Kabob to start selling hummus again, the outbreak has resulted in a court case in which a Virginia woman says she ate hummus from Moby Dick during a baby shower and got salmonella symptoms, but didn’t specify the location. She is seeking $500,000.
