Team led by Iranian Professor in Florida Develops Sensors to Manage Parkinson's
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Motion sensors may find use in managing Parkinson's disease. Led by Iranian American Assistant Professor Behnaz Ghoraani, a team at Florida Atlantic University has set about addressing the problem of "medication on-off" motor fluctuations in Parkinson's disease by devising a system in which two KinetiSense motion sensors are attached to the patient's body – more precisely, on their most-affected wrist and ankle. As the wearer proceeds to perform their daily activities at home, those sensors gather movement data.
When that data is analyzed using a custom algorithm, the onset times and durations of their on and off phases is clearly defined.
Dr. Behnaz Ghoraani received her B.Sc. degree in electrical and electronics engineering from AmirKabir University of Technology (Polytechnique), Tehran, Iran, in 1994, the M.Sc. degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, in 1998, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from Ryerson University, Toronto, ON, Canada, in 2010.
