A record 20 percent of Tehran City Council election candidates are women
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: A record number of 200,000 Iranians have added their names to the ballots for the upcoming city and township council elections across the country. Also, for the first time ever, a record breaking 20 percent of all nominees in Tehran are women candidates, according to Abdolreza Rahmani, Iran's Interior Minister.
Despite restrictive Islamic inheritance and employment laws, Iran has the largest population of college educated women and voter participation in the Middle East.
