Iran's half-German new goalee: Daniel Davari
Don't be surprised if you see a tall (192 cm) light-colored hair German goalkeeper inside Iran's goal in next week's all-important match against Kuwait. Daniel Davari is now confirmed as Iran's fifth half-European, half-Iranian football player, after Ashkan Dejagah (also Iranian German), Omid Nazari Iranian-Swedish , William Cyrus Atashkade (Iranian-Swedish), and Reza Ghoochanejad (Iranian Dutch). The 1.92 m goalkeeper, Davari is currently playing for Eintracht Braunschweig in the second division of the German Football League (Bundesliga II).
Davari is a German citizen and speaks little Persian but is proud of his paternal ancestry and likes Persian foods like Ghorma Sabzi (as seen in video in Persian below). Born 1988 to an Iranian father and a Polish mother in Giessen (Gießen), a small university town in the German federal state of Hesse, 60 Km north of Frankfurt, Davari started his football career at youth level in FSV Mainz 05 but later joined his current team Eintracht Braunschweig.
According to TeamMelli website, the Portuguese coach of Iran's national football team, Carlos Queiroz, is believed to have watched Davari in action in Germany before selecting Davari. This was after news leaked about possible resignation by current goalee Mehdi Rahmati.
A glitch in the system , delayed Davari’s clearance to play for Iran last year. The German born footballer has two passports. The German passport has the name of Daniel while his Iranian passport has Mohammad Daniel. This discrepancy delayed the proceeding by FIFA but with some diplomatic help, the issue was resolved and Davari is eligible to officially represent Iran.
