Ahmadinejad: Iranian parliament and ministry of foreign affairs not in charge
Archive: Ahmadinejad (right) and Larijani, Speaker of Iranian Parliament (left)
In a press conference prior to his trip to the United Nations, Ahmadinejad spoke of his administration as the "main" responsible power in Iran, higher than the legislative or judiciary branches. He said the President, and not the Parliament, has main responsibility for budgets, hiring, and constitutional matters in the country.
In reference to news of recent conflicts between him and his Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ahmadinejad stated that the Ministry is mainly in charge of implementing foreign policies and not developing or writing them. He said reorganization of the Foreign Affairs Ministry will continue. He also claimed that the emergence of "change" as an election motto in U.S. politics was result of Iranian policies.
