Iran accuses Western countries of producing narcotics in Afghanistan

Narcotic drugs
Hamidreza Hosseinabadi, Iran's Chief of Narcotics Police, today accused "western Powers" and military forces in Afghanistan of producing hashish for their own use but producing crack cocaine for use in the Middle East "because hashish is less harmful than crack." He also reported the following:
- A 48% reduction of opium production in Afghanistan, due to pressures by the West, has resulted in a substantial price increase, to $205 per Kilogram.
- The volume of confiscated narcotics in Iran has decreased by 27% this year. Yet still 370 tons of narcotics have been seized (23 tons being heroin). 210,000 distributor of narcotics have been arrested this year alone.
- With 17 of its states producing hashish, Afghanistan is world's largest producer of hasish now. This is encouraged by U.S. and European members of NATO planning to produce hashish for their own use and produce crack cocaine for use in the Middle East "because hashish is less harmful."
