Iranian woman granted divorce after she taped her beating by husband
Tabnak reports that a 23 year old Iranian woman filed for permission to divorce with the Family Court in Tehran, on the grounds of violence and physical abuse by her husband. But after the husband denied the allegations, the woman produced a video which convinced the judge to grant divorce and entitled here to receive the prenuptial fee (in this case 14 gold coins, worth totally about $4200).
According to Islamic laws in Iran, a woman needs husband's or court's permission to divorce and receive the prenuptial fee. Court permissions are often not granted based on physical abuse or domestic violence unless the husband has an incurable mental illness, etc.
Some Iranian men do not allow their wife to divorce unless she waives her rights and entitlement to the prenuptial fee. The green reform and protest movement of the 2009 was heavily supported by Iranian women.
