Iranian Actress Honors ‘Brave Women of Iran’ in Venice Film Festival
Iranian actress Laleh Marzban who won the Orizzonti Award for Best Actress at the 83rd Venice Film Festival for her role (without wearing head scarf or hijab) in Moragheb (Falling House), dedicated her award to "Brave Women of Iran."
Part of her emotional acceptance speech:
"And finally I would like to mention the people of my homeland Iran, who are living under the heaviest pressure of all the time. I would like to dedicate this award to the women of my country who have paid highest prices for even the smallest measure of freedom. And today, more than ever, they continue to carry their dreams, their courage, and their hope. I believe that one day our dream will come true for our people, for all of us."
Falling House (Moragheb) was filmed in Iran in 2025, using a fake screenplay submitted to government authorities to bypass strict censorship and a reduced crew to shoot sensitive, hijab-free scenes. The director, Mohsen Gharaei, deceived Iranian censors by presenting a false script to secure a filming permit.
