Iranian Films Featured at 2020 Vancouver International Film Festival
Entertainment and Culture Blog, Kodoom.com Editorial
Like many other world-class film festivals being held this year during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) is hosting their 39th film festival with a twist - most films can only be seen streaming on-line from the comfort of your home! And this year there are two award-winning Iranian movies being showcased at the festival (see below for details and promotional ticket links).
For 2020, two of the Iranian movies being showcased include: Mohammad Rasoulof's "There Is No Evil" and Massoud Bakhshi's "Yalda, A Night of Forgiveness".
Winner of the Golden Bear, the top prize at the Berlin Film Festival, "There is No Evil" is a piercing drama about the costs of living under a repressive, brutal government. It tells the account of four different stories related to the death penalty in contemporary Iran. A limited number of specially priced tickets are available HERE.
"Yalda, A Night for Forgiveness", won the Grand Jury Prize in the World Dramatic Competition at Sundance in 2020.
Yalda, A Night of Forgiveness is Massoud Bakhshi’s gripping film about a live TV show on which a convicted killer must beg for her life. Maryam (Sadaf Asgari) has been found guilty of murdering her much older husband, and the courts have put her fate in the hands of his daughter Mona (Behnaz Jafari). As their confrontation approaches, we discover that both women know more than they’re telling about the crime... Yalda is a suspenseful, powerful work, suffused with the spirit of social protest. A limited number of specially priced tickets are available HERE.
As in past years, VIFF has chosen Kodoom.com as a media and publicity partner for the Persian speaking community. Visit Kodoom or VIFF websites for more information.
VIFF's festival runs from September 24 through October 7 with the majority of films being made available through their streaming platform known as VIFF Connect. This is an incredible value because it means that only one, low-priced ticket grants your whole household the chance to watch the latest movie of your choice at any time during the festival's run (for British Columbia residents). So choose your film, purchase a ticket and plan when you want to watch it with your family. You also can do something to show your appreciation for the front line workers of British Columbia. For one low price, you can buy a ticket for yourself and gift one for local front-liners who could also use a much needed break from the fight against the pandemic.
