Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com:
The Regional Headquarters of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Armed Forces (IRGC) in Salman, Rasht, has announced detention of a 51 year old woman who buried her dog in the cemetery of a local mosque in the village of Amsheh.
The woman was accused of calling the dog "like her child" and engraving on the tombstone "14.5 years of memories." The Board of Trustees at the mosque and the IRGC Armed Forces Corp has charged the woman with "Insulting People's Sacred Beliefs" and arrested her with two men as her "accomplices." The Revolutionary Armed Forces also exhumed the body of the dog within 6 hours after the burial.
An increasing number of Iranians now own dogs as pets. Iranian authorities have banned ownership or public walking of pet dogs in some cities citing religious edicts, health concerns and (Anti-Westernization) cultural norms.
