Rare confession by Iran's military police: $18 Million in damages to victims of brute force
In a rare occurrence, two high ranking officers of Iran's Military police, which is closely linked to Revolutionary Guard Corps, admitted "damages to innocent people's lives by police," and spoke of paying some $18 Million in compensatory damages in this regard ($6 Million paid and another $12 Million overdue).
Considering the amount of an average damage award in Iran (thousands of dollars), this points out to the high number of victims of police brute force, not counting those reformists killed during recent post-election unrest and protests in Iran. Families of such victims had reported earlier of having to pay up to $15000 to the Police before they could get bodies of their dear ones back.
