Khabar and other Iranian news sources reported a massive explosion around 5:25 AM local Tehran time in the Narmak area, resulting in a power outage for several hours. Iranian power company spokesperson later attributed the blast to birds flying into high voltage transformers in Narmak's 70the Square. Investigations (and some rumors) continue.

The area is a few blocks away from Ahmadinejad's private residence (shown in picture) - a modest house he personally owned prior to his presidency.
