It is reported that six people have been arrested in Iran for conducting a complex operation of siphoning off thousands of gallons of gasoline from a Main pipeline between cities of Esfahan and Rafsanjan in Central Iran. The group dug 60-feet tunnels and stored stolen gasoline in 3000 gallon tanks before selling them off in black market.
The gasoline shortage in Iran and excessive black market prices are expected to worsen after the new round of sanctions against Iran. Recently several gasoline exporters to Iran, including the French oil company Total SA, announced they have stopped shipping gasoline to Iran after the U.S. and European Union passed tough new sanctions against Iran.
