In Pictures, 44 Days After The Flood: Children Near Contaminated Water, War Ammunition
Independent Aggregator of Iran-related News/Events, Kodoom.com: Some 40 days after unprecedented flash floods paralyzed several Iranian provinces, pictures posted on Iranian news media show children in town of Agha Ghala in Golestan province playing in contaminated water which still has not receded in many areas:
Possibly caused by global warming and climate change patterns, a terrible series of unprecedented flash floods hit 25 of Iran's 31 provinces in April, causing widespread devastation and destruction. The death toll has surpassed 70 with the potential of more loss of life. Dams in some areas are about to break and thousands have been displaced seeking shelter in safer areas. Several US-based charitable organizations are collecting donations (News Link) to help Iranians with urgent supplies of fresh water, food, and shelter.
According to Iranian news sources, millions of foreign aid dollars to Iranian flood victims are still stuck behind sanctions walls.
In the Southern Province of Khuzistan, children in some flooded areas are now attending school classes set up in hot steamy tents. In the town of Khasraj near Hamidieh, once a battlefront against the invading Iraqi army during the 1980's, children found an unexploded mortar round near a school tent, according to Iranian news sources:
In Mamoolan in Lorestan province, images published show tent cities hosting residents because most of the damaged buildings are still not repaired.
A recent scientific article in Nature (link) predicts that Iran will be experiencing unprecedented climate-related problems such as drying of lakes and rivers, dust storms, record-breaking temperatures, droughts, and floods.
