Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) is back this year, celebrating its 40th anniversary with both in-person and virtual film experiences. Representing Iran are three films being featured this year: Hit the Road, Maya and Bone Marrow.
VIFF welcomes Panah Panahi as he presents his feature debut, "Hit the Road". This is a tale of one family and their mysterious journey through rural Iran. The cast includes Hassan Madjooni, Pantea Panahiha, Rayan Sarlak, and Amin Simiar.
Expect to laugh, perhaps cry and experience a myriad of emotions in between as their travels mirror life. A limited number of specially priced tickets are available HERE
If you like a real life, natural thrill, then you will enjoy, "Maya". Directed by Jamshid Mojaddadi and Anson Hartford, this film documents the release of Maya, the famous Bengal tiger, into the open fields of splendor near the Caspian Sea. Expect to be mesmerized by the twists and turns of the relationship between man and this beloved animal of Iran.
Maya is available to view either in the cinema or through VIFF connect virtual screening. A limited number of specially priced tickets are available HERE.
Lastly, be prepared to be gripped by the powerful and heart-wrenching story of "Bone Marrow" directed by Hamid Reza Ghorbani. While doctors believe that her son’s leukemia is terminal, Bahar (Parinaz Izadyar) holds out hope for a rare procedure that would require a fresh umbilical cord from the child’s birth parents. A tense atmosphere descends upon Bahar and her husband Hossein (Babak Hamidian) as they wrestle with the unspoken truth: he is not the boy’s father. The stellar ensemble also includes Javad Ezati, Navid Pourfaraj, Behrouz Shoeibi, Ahmad Saatchian, and Alireza Mirsalari.
